Igor Varitsky has been appointed as the General Manager of the Shanghai Dragons. He has signed a two-year contract.
“It’s an honor for me to become part of a new and ambitious project. The club has changed not only its name and logo but also its philosophy. We will do everything possible to assemble a highly competitive and exciting team.
Our goals and objectives will be reflected not only in the coaching staff but also in the players and team personnel. In the coming days we will announce our first signings — the work to strengthen all areas of the roster continues,” said Varitsky.

Homegrown playerfrom the Taganay Sports Club in Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk Region. During his playing career from 1988 to 2008, he played for Traktor, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Severstal, Mechel, SalavatYulaev, Avtomobilist, as well asfor the German clubs Kassel and Hannover.
He played 490 games in the top division of the USSR and Russia. Holds Traktor’s record for most goals in a single season — 27.
World Champion (1993). Silver medalist of the Russian Championship (1998). Three-time bronze medalist of the Russian Championship (1993, 1994, 2001). Participant of the 1994 Winter Olympics.
Graduated from the Chelyabinsk State Institute of Physical Culture. Served as assistant coach of Vityaz Chekhov in the 2008–2009 season. The following year, he was appointed as General Manager of Traktor. Since 2013, he has served as General Manager of Vityaz.
