Martin Frk: “We Want to Give the Fans Plenty to Be Excited About”

Martin Frk became the first of the Shanghai Dragons’ new additions to arrive in St. Petersburg ahead of the upcoming season.

The Czech forward was greeted at the airport by the Dragons’ media team shortly after his arrival.

Frk, one of Shanghai’s key offseason additions, is now set to join the team as preparations for the new season get underway.

“We want to give the fans as many exciting moments as possible,” Frk said upon his arrival.

— Martin, welcome! You’ve just arrived. How are you feeling?

— First of all, thank you for having me. I’m really happy to be here. It’s been a long couple of days of traveling, but I’m glad I’ve finally arrived. I’m really excited about the season ahead and looking forward to having a great year.

— You’re about to begin your first season in the KHL. What are you looking forward to the most?

— I’m looking forward to something new — a new challenge and a new experience. I’m lucky enough to have played with several guys who are on the team this year, so I think that will make the transition a little easier for me. I’m really excited and can’t wait for the season to get started.

— What are you most excited to experience, both on and off the ice in Russia?

— I’m really excited about the city. I’ve heard it’s beautiful, so I can’t wait to explore it a little when I have some free time. And when my family comes over, I’m looking forward to discovering it together with them and our two kids. It’s obviously going to be a different experience from playing in Canada or the United States, so I’m excited to be here and see how the year unfolds. Hopefully, we can have a really strong regular season and then see what we can accomplish in the playoffs.

— Finally, any words for the fans?

Hopefully, you guys will come out and support us every game. We want to bring you a lot of great moments this season, and we’re really looking forward to seeing you at the arena!
