Shanghai Dragons Add Troy Ward to Coaching Staff

The Shanghai Dragons have signed American coach Troy Ward to a one-year contract. Ward will oversee the club’s work with defensemen.

Ward brings extensive experience to Shanghai after a coaching career spanning four decades across multiple North American leagues, including the AHL and NHL.

During the 2025–26 season, Ward served as head coach at Minnesota State University in the NCAA. He was named ECHL Coach of the Year in the 2000–01 season and won bronze with Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2023.

Over the past two seasons, Ward’s team captured both the CCHA regular-season title and the CCHA championship, adding to a resume built on player development, defensive structure and long-term success behind the bench.
