Shanghai Dragons Sign Forward Brett Murray to One-Year Contract
The Shanghai Dragons have signed 27-year-old Canadian forward Brett Murray to a one-year contract.
Murray has extensive North American experience, having played in the AHL with the Rochester Americans and in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres. Across 359 AHL games, he recorded 223 points on 108 goals and 115 assists.
The forward spent the 2025–26 season in Germany with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, producing 33 points in 40 games with 17 goals and 16 assists.
“This is a player who will add both muscle and skill to our team,” said Evgeny Artyukhin, general manager of the Shanghai Dragons. “Murray is nearly two meters tall and weighs more than 100 kilograms. He is a classic power forward who finishes checks, creates space for his teammates around the net and wins battles. He pressures opponents in the corners, but at the same time Brett handles the puck well, can drive the attack, score and make plays. He is a leader by nature, and through his example he pushes the team forward every game.”
With the signing, Shanghai adds a big, physical forward with scoring ability, North American experience and the presence to impact games in high-traffic areas.
