Shanghai Dragons Sign Forward Nic Petan to One-Year Contract

The Shanghai Dragons have signed Canadian forward Nic Petan to a one-year contract.

Petan brings extensive North American experience to Shanghai. Over eight seasons in the AHL, the forward played more than 300 games and recorded 299 points.

He also appeared in 170 NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild, totaling 35 points on seven goals and 28 assists.

During the 2024–25 KHL season, Petan played for Ak Bars Kazan, recording 50 points in 60 games. He spent last season playing in Switzerland.

“We are continuing to strengthen our offense, and a skilled playmaker is exactly what our team needs,” said Evgeny Artyukhin, general manager of the Shanghai Dragons. “Petan has a high hockey IQ and is capable of controlling the play, creating scoring chances for his teammates and finishing opportunities himself. He can contribute both at even strength and on the power play. His soft hands, excellent skating and ability to anticipate plays several moves ahead will make the Dragons stronger in the new season.”

With the signing, Shanghai adds a creative and experienced playmaker capable of driving offense, improving the power play and providing another skilled option in the club’s top six.
