Points Again! Dragons Fall in Shootout to Dynamo Moscow, Wrap Up Homestand
SAINT PETERSBURG — The Shanghai Dragons extended their point streak but fell just short in a 3-2 shootout loss to Dynamo Moscow on October 16, closing out their four-game homestand at SKA Arena. With Spencer Foo and Doyle Somerby sitting out, Chezganov and Bryntsev entered the lineup. Adam Clendening wore the captain’s “C,” while Patrik Rybar got the start in net.
Counterattacking Hockey
Dynamo opened aggressively, pressing deep and crowding Rybar’s crease with bodies. Shanghai responded with speed and structured counterattacks, forcing the visitors to slow their tempo. The Dragons’ defense remained disciplined, cutting off cross-ice passes and denying second-chance attempts.

Lucky Bounce Breakthrough
At 9:03, Shanghai opened the scoring when Rendulic cross-ice pass deflected off a defender’s skate and floated past Motorygin’s shoulder — 1-0 Dragons. The hosts nearly doubled the lead with several power-play chances, but Dynamo’s goaltender made key saves, reading Shanghai’s setups perfectly and tracking deflections through heavy traffic.
Labanc Hits the Bar, Dynamo Responds
Early in the second, Kevin Labanc nearly doubled the lead, ringing a shot off the crossbar. Moments later, after a scramble in front of the net, Sikura jammed home a loose puck to tie it 1-1. Both teams exchanged power plays, but neither side capitalized until defenseman Valentsov broke free down the right wing and snapped a perfect shot off the far post and in for 2-1 Dragons late in the period — his first goal of the season.

Tight Third Period Battle
Dynamo threw everything forward in the final frame, dominating possession early, but Shanghai held firm. Sucese nearly extended the lead on a rebound, while the Dragons’ defensive structure frustrated Moscow’s attack.
Dynamo Equalizes, Wins in Shootout
With just under two minutes left, Dynamo pulled their goalie and went 6-on-4 after a late penalty, converting when Slepyshev buried a rebound to tie the game 2-2. In overtime, both teams traded chances — Rybar made a pair of critical stops, while Shanghai nearly won it on a Rendulic one-timer that hit Motorygin’s blocker. The shootout went Dynamo’s way, with Will and Gusev scoring their attempts to secure the extra point.
Despite the loss, Shanghai extended their point streak and solidified their position near the top of the Western Conference standings.
Next Up: The Dragons hit the road for a three-game trip, facing Spartak, Dinamo Minsk, and Severstal.
