Dragons Show Grit in Siberia: Three Goals, Full Control, Big Win in Novosibirsk
NOVOSIBIRSK — In a matchup built on speed, structure, and sheer will, the Shanghai Dragons delivered one of their most disciplined performances of the season, shutting out Sibir 3–0 at Sibir Arena.
With several tweaks up front and Bryntsev stepping into the defense corps, head coach Gerard Gallant trusted Patrik Rybár to anchor the crease – and the Slovak netminder rewarded that trust with a flawless night.
High Tempo, High Tension
The Dragons opened the game at full throttle, hemming Sibir in their zone and forcing Krasotkin into early work.
Sibir responded with their trademark transition play, testing Shanghai’s defensive layers and generating a dangerous 2-on-1 that Rybár calmly neutralized. Both teams traded offensive surges, but the period ended scoreless – and with rising intensity.

Quinney Takes Over
Whatever was said in the intermission worked instantly. Just 11 seconds into the second period – the Dragons’ fastest goal of the season – Gage Quinney slipped behind the defense, sold a move, and beat Krasotkin cleanly for 1–0.
Minutes later, Sibir took a penalty for too many men, and Quinney struck again – this time battling his way into the blue paint, burying his own rebound off a feed from Spooner. 2–0 Dragons, and Novosibirsk was stunned.
Sibir pushed back, hitting the post twice, but Rybár stayed perfect. Krasotkin, meanwhile, kept the score from ballooning with several point-blank saves, including a glove robbery on Labanc.
Managing the Score – and Owning the Game
Early in the third, Shanghai killed off a penalty with structure and composure, then earned a power play of their own. Labanc fired repeatedly from the top of the zone, but Krasotkin read each attempt. Still, the Dragons dictated the pace – tight, controlled, mistake-free hockey aimed at protecting the lead.
When the moment for the knockout punch arrived, they took it.

Finishing Strong
Halfway through the period, after a roughing call on Ivan Klimovich, the Dragons went back on the power play. Thirty seconds later, Merkley converted a beautiful passing sequence from Spooner and Quinney — 3–0, full control.
From there, the game turned physical. Very physical. One fight became two, then three, then four — with Reilly, Wagner, Harpur, and Akolzin all answering the bell. Through the chaos, the Dragons stayed composed, stayed sharp, and stayed perfect on the scoreboard.
A shutout, a statement, and a season-high level of grit.
