Dragons Fall 3-0 to Spartak Moscow in Revenge Win
MOSCOW — The Shanghai Dragons suffered a tough 3-0 defeat at Megasport Arena on October 7, as Spartak Moscow avenged their early-season loss to the Dragons. With Chekhovich and Kuznetsov held out, Burmistrov and Akolzin stepped into the lineup, while Patrik Rybar started in goal.
Fighting Spirit from the Start
The game began with intensity, but an early collision sent Riley Sutter off for a shift, forcing Shanghai to reshuffle their lines. Spartak came out flying, buzzing through the neutral zone and creating sustained pressure on Rybar. The home side’s determination was evident from the opening minutes, while the Dragons relied on counterattacks and disciplined defensive play.

Chasing the Game
At 8:40, Wagner took a penalty for roughing, giving Spartak a power-play opportunity. The Red-and-Whites capitalized as Korostelev fired a quick one-timer past Rybar in the near corner, 1-0. Shanghai responded with a chance for Rendulic, but he missed the net. Spartak continued to test Shanghai’s defense, while Wagner had a one-on-one with Nikolayev, but could not convert.
Goaltender Switch and Pressure Builds
The second period saw Shanghai turn to Andrei Kareyev in goal. Spartak immediately pressured the fresh netminder, locking the Dragons in their defensive zone for several shifts. Despite the intensity, Shanghai managed to create a breakaway for Wagner, who was unable to beat Nikolaev after a long shift near his own net.

Two More Goals for Spartak
Spartak maintained control, cycling the puck and launching repeated attacks. At 25:31, Todd scored from mid-range to make it 2-0, followed by Maltsev converting a cross-ice setup at 38:40, extending the lead to 3-0 heading into the final period.
Dragons Push Without Success
In the third, Shanghai continued to press, including a shorthanded attempt and a 6-on-4 late in the game, but could not solve Nikolayev. Rybar made several key stops, and the Dragons’ offensive efforts failed to find the back of the net. The game ended with Spartak taking the win 3-0, leaving Shanghai searching for answers ahead of their next matchup.
