Shanghai Dragons Sign Goaltender Pavel Khomchenko to One-Year Contract

The Shanghai Dragons have signed goaltender Pavel Khomchenko to a one-year contract.

Khomchenko brings extensive KHL experience to Shanghai, having appeared in 163 games with Spartak Moscow, Admiral Vladivostok, Avangard Omsk, CSKA Moscow and HC Sochi. Over his KHL career, he has earned 52 wins, posted a .918 save percentage, a 2.58 goals-against average and recorded 10 shutouts.

Last season, Khomchenko played for HC Sochi, appearing in 50 games and finishing with a .915 save percentage.

“We are strengthening our goaltending group with an experienced goalie who knows how to handle a heavy workload,” said Evgeny Artyukhin, general manager of the Shanghai Dragons. “Pavel is calm under pressure, has excellent reactions and reads the game well. We believe he will bring reliability and confidence to our team in front of our own net, allowing our offense to play with more freedom at the other end.”

With the signing, Shanghai adds a proven KHL goaltender whose experience, composure and ability to play significant minutes will help stabilize the Dragons’ crease.
