Shanghai Dragons Acquire Goaltender Vyacheslav Buteyets on Loan from Traktor

The Shanghai Dragons have acquired 24-year-old goaltender Vyacheslav Buteyets on a one-year loan agreement from Traktor Chelyabinsk.

A product of the Chelyabinsk hockey system, Buteyets developed through the junior ranks with Belye Medvedi and Chaika before establishing himself in the VHL with Chelmet Chelyabinsk.

Over 85 VHL games, the netminder posted 40 wins, a .921 save percentage, and a 2.41 goals-against average, earning a reputation as one of the league’s reliable young goaltenders.

Buteets spent the past two seasons in North America, playing in both the AHL and ECHL while also earning call-ups to the Anaheim Ducks organization.

“Vyacheslav is a young, big-bodied goaltender who is eager to continue developing at the KHL level,” said Evgeny Artyukhin, general manager of the Shanghai Dragons. “He challenged himself by playing in North America and gained valuable experience that will benefit both him and our team. He will bring healthy competition to our goaltending group and compete for a starting role.”

With the addition of Buteyets, the Dragons strengthen their crease with an athletic, technically sound goaltender entering the prime years of his career and motivated to establish himself in the KHL.
